CHOOSES INTELIX BALUNS
Middleton, WI—Rotech System Integration, a professional audio/video
integrator based in Keyport, New Jersey, recently completed
a commercial video installation for a leading pharmaceutical
company corporate headquarters using Intelix extension technology.
“Our client required seven high-definition televisions installed,
but required that all of the audio and video sources be located
in the server room which was over 200 feet away,” explains
Rotech General Manager James FitzGibbon. “We immediately turned
to Intelix.”
The installation included audio/video distribution into several
separate areas: the main conference room, a second smaller
conference room, the main lobby, as well as the owner’s main
office, executive kitchen and pantry, and private onsite bedroom.
“Considering the facility was 100,000 square feet, the cost
of traditional RGBHV plenum cable was prohibitive,” explains
Mr. FitzGibbon. “Instead, we chose Intelix baluns and plenum
Cat 5e for the distribution of HDTV, CCTV, and VGA throughout
the facility.”
In the main conference room, Rotech installed one 52” Sony
Bravia XBR 3 LCD television and DVD player. The DVD player
was located in a local cabinet for quick, easy access. A Yamaha
receiver and high-definition satellite receiver dedicated
to the room was in installed in the rack-room. Audio and video
to and from the receiver was routed over Intelix AVO-V3AD-F
component video baluns and AVO-A2-F
stereo audio baluns.
“Interestingly, on the AVO-V3AD-F balun we were not using
the digital audio RCA jack,” explains Mr. FitzGibbon. “We
thought we would get creative, so to control the televisions
by IR we took IR emitters and soldered on male RCA ends and
connected it to the digital audio RCA connection on the balun.
The idea was to send both component video and IR commands
to the TV in one product. We tested this setup in our office
during engineering to check for proper operation and it worked
like a champ. This setup was obviously a concern, because
a month or so after our installation Intelix released their
component video with IR balun—the AVO-V3PT-F.”
Rotech provided a similar configuration in the owner’s main
executive office, the main difference being one Sony 46” XBR
3 LCD television instead of the 52”. In both areas, video
from a local computer was routed over Intelix VGA-HR-F
baluns to the
televisions. An additional AVO-A2-F stereo audio balun was
provided should audio be required along with the VGA.
Throughout the facility, Rotech installed AMX 5” and 7” touch
panels for control.
In all of the areas, Rotech chose televisions based on the
environment. In the second conference room, Rotech installed
one 40” Sony XBR 3 LCD television. In the executive kitchen,
Rotech installed one 40” Sony XBR 3 LCD television. A second
television, a 26” LG LCD, was installed in the pantry. In
the onsite bedroom, Rotech installed one 40” Sony XBR 3 LCD
television. In the owner’s main executive office, Rotech installed
one Sony 46” XBR 3 LCD TV. All of the audio and video from
to these destinations were routed over Intelix AVO-V3AD-F
and AVO-A2-F baluns.
To increase the comfort of waiting clients, Rotech also installed
one 40” Sony Bravia XBR 3 television in the main lobby. A
DVD player running corporate advertisements was also tied
into the television via Intelix baluns.

Main
Lobby with Security Panels |
“Security was another necessary component to our installation,”
explains Mr. FitzGibbon. “In both the main conference room
and office, we provided security monitoring from two Dedicated
Micros 16 Channel BX2 DVRs. It was extremely important that
our client have the ability to view video from one or several
of the 32 cameras installed throughout the facility.”
Rotech distributed the main monitor output from each Dedicated
Micros DVR into a Key Digital distribution amplifier, which
in turn was distributed into each rooms Yamaha receiver. The
receivers provided the necessary up conversion from composite
to component video. This video was then distributed to each
television through Intelix AVO-V3AD-F component video and
digital audio baluns.

Intelix baluns
rack-mounted in an Intelix DIN-RACK-KIT |
To optimize installation and ensure a clean rack-room, Rotech
chose two Middle Atlantic ERK racks, as well as the Intelix
DIN-RACK-KIT
and AVO-CLIP
balun rack mounting system. “The Intelix rack mounting system
allowed for a quick, easy, and neat installation in the Middle
Atlantic racks,” explains Mr. FitzGibbon.
Rotech neatly completed the installation using Extron Cable
Cubby enclosures which housed 120 volt outlets, six LAN connections,
a phone connection, VGA video and stereo audio, as well as
pass through access for the wiring which supports the AMX
touch panels.
“The installation went perfect and the Intelix product worked
without any problems,” states Mr. FitzGibon. “The result was
a great installation: both easy to install and extremely cost-effective
for long distance video distribution where plenum cable was
required.”
